This organisation is a UK based professional membership for language practioners Its aim is to:-

  • Enhance and promote the value of languages and skills in the public interest
  • Set standards and nationally accredit learning and use of language
  • Advise on policy and strategy affecting languages

Courses

  • Setting up as a freelance Translator

SUFT is an 8 week online practical business course ran via Institute of translation & Interpreting (ITI) website. Applicants apply via www.iti.org.uk and it is specifically designed to help graduates and career changers. You will

  • Discover your strengths and get useful hints on how and where to work
  • Identify the practicalities of working from home
  • Explore the benefits of using social media and networking to promote yourself positively
  • Evaluate the benefits of developing a specialism
  • Produce a translator-specific CV
  • Produce a professional quote and invoice
  • Learn how to ensure you get paid on time
  • Develop a realistic business plan
  • ESOL - English for speakers of other languages

ESOL Service is a city wide service provider that delivers English language learning opportunities to adults for whom English is not the language spoken at home. Learners must be intending to settle in the UK and may include:

  • those who have lived in the UK for over three years
  • those with indefinite leave to remain
  • asylum seekers and refugees
  • members of the EEC Economic area

Types of courses

All four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught. All teachers are fully qualified and offer qualifications from Entry 1 to Level 2. The focus is on language and skills required for everyday life, work and citizenship.
